CAIRO – 16 December 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi headed on Sunday to Vienna for a four-day visit to participate in the High-level Forum Africa-Europe, during which he will meet with several Austrian officials and investors and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Sisi's participation in the forum comes upon the invitation of Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria Sebastian Kurz, who holds the presidency of the council of the European Union and President of the Republic of Rwanda and Chairperson of the African Union Paul Kagame.

This is Sisi's first visit to Austria, and the first presidential visit between Egypt and Austria in more than 11 years, according to Ambassador of Egypt to Austria Omar Amer's statement to the media delegation accompanying the president.

Meanwhile, Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Radi referred that Egypt was invited to the forum due to the significant role the country plays in Africa, especially that it holds the presidency of the upcoming African Union.

Radi added that Sisi will deliver a speech during the forum on Egypt's vision to intensify the efforts to develop Africa.

Furthermore, Sisi will participate during the visit in a summit meeting with Federal Chancellor of Austria Kurz and will take part in talks with several Austrian officials, politicians, and investors on bilateral relations in investments, commerce, technology, innovation, education, scientific research, transportation and railway.

In this regard, Ambassador of Egypt to Austria Amer said that Sisi will meet on Wednesday representatives and businessmen of 13 companies to increase Austrian investments in Egypt.

On the sidelines of the forum, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a cooperation agreement in different fields, including high education, innovation and technology, will be signed between Egypt and Austria.

As for the High-level Forum Africa-Europe held under the theme "Taking Cooperation to the Digital Age", the two-day forum will be attended by African and European heads of state, CEOs of major global companies as well as innovative entrepreneurs.

The forum provides the opportunity to interact with high-level government representatives, potential investors and cooperation partners, promoting the partnership between Africa and Europe.

The forum will be accompanied by Business to Business (B2B) as well as Business to Government (B2G) meetings, where entrepreneurs and innovators will be able to exchange their concepts and solutions for the digital age.

The forum aims to promote innovation and digitalization as important factors for future development and deepen the partnership in technology exchange and trade between Africa and Europe. Additionally, it will highlight importance of technology and trade for economic growth, creating jobs, building resilient societies and fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
