CAIRO – 25 October 2018: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Sudanese counterpart El-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed affirmed the necessity to work to develop bilateral relations between the two countries.

During a meeting of the joint political consultation committee on Oct. 24, Shoukry highlighted recent development in bilateral relations in several fields, most notably taking the necessary steps to connect the two countries with a common electric network; the project that is set to start in the coming months.

An official source in the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said in April that the capacity of the project will be 200-300 MW, according to the electricity needs of the Sudanese people, explaining that Egypt is able to complete the project within six months.

For his part, Ahmed expressed his country's keenness to work to develop relations with Egypt in all fields and to continue joint cooperation, implementing and activating all agreements signed between the two sides during the coming period.

The positive development in the joint relations included taking steps to deal with the challenges facing the Nile Valley Authority for river navigation, in addition to taking a number of measures to facilitate the transit of people and goods between the two sides.
Shoukry and Ahmed agreed on promoting regional and international peace and stability. They also agreed to enhance coordination concerning the situation in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa Region as well as the situation in South Sudan, Libya and Syria, China's Xinhua reported.

A delegation from Egypt's Railway Authority discussed in October the establishment of a railway project between Egypt and Sudan, Al-Ahram Online reported. A similar project was discussed between the two states in 2009.

Head of the Egyptian delegation Mohamed Seliet said that the project is set to be accomplished in three years, including the establishment of the 630-kilometer railway line between Aswan and Abu Hamad.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived in Khartoum on Thursday, to attend the 24th summit with his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir to sign several agreements and memoranda.

A matrix to implement joint projects is expected to be approved during the summit, according to Sudanese Ambassador to Cairo Abdel Halim Mahmoud.
