CAIRO – 15 September 2018: Libyan Tawergha city is witnessing a humanitarian tragedy since 2011, Salem al-Tagory, the lawyer for civil-war war victim’s relatives said on Saturday.

“The major tragedy -for the city residents- is silence that has been maintained by the international organizations and human rights bodies despite the violations against the residents,” he said in a speech on behalf of Forum for Human Rights and Development President Saeed Abdel-Hafez at Seminar held on the sidelines of the 39th Session of the International Council for Human Rights in Geneva.

The residents of the city face forced displacement, while the children were deprived form rights of education, health, and decent life, he continued.

“They [children] are being tortured, killed, and detained for no reason by armed militants backed by Qatar,” he said.

“The thing we need is returning the residents to their hometown and providing them with all legitimate rights that are guaranteed by the international agreements and charters,” Tagory added.

He called on the international community to press on Qatar to stop interference [policy] and its logistic support to the armed militias.

Tagory noted that the international community, especially Europe, cares only about the illegal migration and turns a blind eye to the human rights violations in Libya, adding that his organization has evidence of Turkey and Qatar’s interference in Libyan internal affairs.

“All involved parts will be brought to trial,” he concluded.
