CAIRO – 21 July 2018: The Ministry of Manpower announced that the ministry’s labour office at the Egyptian Embassy in Jordan succeeded in addressing the complaints of Egyptian workers over overdue payments.
In a statement by the ministry on Saturday, a number of Egyptian workers in Amman filed several complaints that the companies they are working for failed to pay them overdue payments totalling 1,770 Jordanian Dinars (JOD), the equalivanet to EGP 44,000.
The ministry added that it managed to intervene to get their money back in collaboration with the labor representation office in Amman.
Remittances from expatriate Egyptians in Jordan stood at $80 million in January, the Egyptian Embassy in Jordan said in a statement back in February.
In a report sent to the Minister of Manpower, Mohamed Saafan, the embassy said that some 14,000 job permits have been issued for Egyptians to work in Jordan.
Total remittances from Egyptian expatriates recorded $29.1 billion during the period from November 2016 to December 2017, compared to $24.4 billion in the same period of 2015/2016, the latest data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) showed.
