CAIRO – 20 July 2018: Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, announced his plan to visit Egypt soon, Al-Ahram reported from Agenzia Nova Italian Press Agency.

Milanesi said that Italy is following up on the Italian Regini’s case, who was killed in Egypt in 2016. At the same time, Italy is keen on maintaining strong relations with Egypt, Al-Ahram added.

Milanesi also referred to Egypt’s vital role in Libya’s situation.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met on Wednesday with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, in the presence of Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfiq, Head of General Intelligence Abbas Kamel, and Italian Ambassador in Cairo Giampaolo Cantini.

Egypt offers strong political desire to achieve justice in Regeni's case: Sisi

CAIRO - 18 July 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi affirmed Wednesday that Egypt offers strong political desire to reach the final results in the investigations into the murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni, who was killed in Cairo two years ago.




According to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency’s spokesperson Bassam Radi, the meeting discussed ways of enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and Italy at various levels in several fields.

The statement added that the meeting tackled some points of view on a number of international and regional issues of common concern, especially the latest developments in the Libyan issue and illegal immigration across the Mediterranean. The meeting also discussed ways to enhance joint efforts and bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism.

On his part, Salvini stressed the depth and strength of the relations between the two countries, praising the cooperation between the two sides at various levels, especially in the economic relations field.

He also praised the cooperation of the Egyptian authorities in Regini’s case to reach the truth and the perpetrators who committed the crime.
Earlier on Sunday Speaker of the House of Representatives Ali Abdel Aal held Sunday separate talks with the ambassadors of Iraq, Serbia, Italy, and Saudi Arabia in Cairo.
Abdel Aal's meeting with the Italian envoy tackled boosting bilateral relations in various fields, especially parliamentarian affairs.

On Jan. 25, 2016, the 28-year old Italian postgraduate student Giulio Regeni disappeared in Cairo, only for his dead body to be found on Feb. 3 alongside the Cairo-Alexandria highway, bearing signs of torture and beating.

Italy's Martella praises coexistence in Egypt

CAIRO - 10 July 2018: President of Italy Sergio Martella praised the peaceful coexistence between Egyptians regardless their beliefs and religion. During his meeting with Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria on Monday in Rome, Martella said that there is no doubt that all Egyptians are united.
