CAIRO – 19 February 2018: The Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makey presented to the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry an invitation from his Belarusian President for Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to visit Minsk this year, according to the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abo Zied on Sunday.

Shoukry held a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart, in the framework of his current participation in the Munich Security Conference during the period 15-18 February.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Belarusian Foreign Minister expressed his deep gratitude for the development of relations between the two countries and the positive results of the recent visit of Sameh Shoukry to Belarus in August.

With regard to efforts to combat terrorism, the Belarusian Foreign Minister expressed his country's wishes for the success of the 2018 Sinai military operation 2018, stressing his confidence in Egypt's ability to root out terrorism.

The two ministers stressed the importance of following up the coordination between the Egyptian foreign ministry and the Belarusian embassy in Cairo to finalize a MOU to establish a mechanism of political consultation between the foreign ministries in the field of information and communications technology.

The two sides discussed the efforts of the two countries to push forward bilateral relations in various fields. The two sides are keen to expand cooperation in the political and economic fields as well as in the tourism sector as Egypt is the second largest destination for the Belarusian tourist. The number of Belarusian tourists coming to Egypt reached about 147 thousand in 2017.

Abu Zeid pointed out that the meeting also touched on Egypt's vision of the regional situation in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq, as well as Egypt's efforts to resolve the Palestinian case.

Additionally, in March The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus met a large delegation of Egyptian scientists to open a technology center in Egypt to facilitate the transfer of technology, stated Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Gusakov, reported Belarus news.

In January 2017, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visited Egypt and signed an agreement on cooperation in science and technology between Egyptian Academy for Scientific Research and Technology and the Belarusian Academy of Sciences.
