CAIRO - 16 February 2018: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry expressed his concern about the security conditions in several Libyan cities and their impact on the political process.

This came at his meeting on Friday with UN Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame on the sidelines of his participation in the 54th Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Germany's Munich city.

In statements, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the two sides discussed the latest developments in Libya and efforts exerted to resolve the Libyan crisis.

During the meeting, Shoukry expressed Egypt's support for UN efforts exerted in this regard, urging all regional and international parties to back these efforts.

The UN envoy also posted Shoukry on the outcome of contacts with all Libyan parties, in addition to efforts exerted to amend the Libyan Political Agreement, which was signed in Skhirat in Morocco in December 2015, known as "Skhirat Agreement".

Salame also posted Shoukry on measures taken to register eligible voters ahead of Libya 2018 elections, saying the Libyans are awaiting for the issuance of the election law.

Shoukry also stressed the necessity of continuing efforts to bring closer the disputing parties in Libya with the view to reaching a national vision on Libya's future.

Shoukry also underlined efforts exerted by Egypt to unify the Libyan military institution to undertake its duties in restoring peace and stability and eradicate terrorism in the country.

Shoukry also reiterated Egypt's deep concern about the growing terrorist threat, especially with the return of terrorists from Syria and Iraq and their attempts to flee to Libya and the Sahel region, a matter that poses serious threats to security and stability of the entire region.
