CAIRO – 6 February 2018: Egyptian Attorney general Nabil Sadek received a report on Sunday accusing Samir Anan, son of former hopeful Presidential Candidate Sami Anan, of using his Twitter account to stir up public opinion in order to create a social strife.

Anan was accused of publishing posts through his Twitter account, on which he gave out provocative opinions considered as an attempt to stir up political unrest. Anan was suspended from The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), where he works as a professor, pending an ongoing investigation conducted by the academy officials.

The son of the former Presidential candidate denied all the accusations, by stressing that he has no business with politics and the Twitter account where the posts were published did not belong to him, calling it a “fake one”.

Egypt’s National Election Authority (NEA) has stated in January the legal grounds, upon which it removed former Military Chief of Staff Sami Anan from the voters’ database over charges of “forgery” to run for the 2018 presidential election.

The military prosecution has imposed a gag order on the case of former Chief of Staff and presidential hopeful Sami Anan after he was summoned over forgery charges. Anan did not have a military permission terminating his service at the Armed Forces, according to then SCAF statement.
