Sisi, Bashir meet in Addis Ababa

CAIRO- 28 January 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir in Addis Ababa, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement Saturday.

The spokesman described the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 30th African Union (AU) Summit, as fraternal, frank and transparent.

Sisi affirmed the specificity and strength of Egyptian-Sudanese relations and the historical ties gathering the two countries at all levels, he added.

The Egyptian president called for sparing no effort to enhance bilateral cooperation, expressing Egypt's keenness to continue consultations and coordination with the brotherly Sudan on various issues and files, especially in view of the common challenges posed by the current regional situation, Rady said.

Bashir highlighted the common history and destiny gathering the two peoples of the Nile Valley, affirming his country's keenness to develop bilateral cooperation with Egypt at all levels.

He also appreciated Egypt's keenness to consult with Sudan, which confirms the deeply-rooted ties between the two countries.

The challenges posed by the current regional situation make it necessary to continue intensive coordination between the two countries to achieve their common interests, the Sudanese president said.

The talks also dealt with the various aspects of bilateral relations and means of pushing forward cooperation between the two countries, the presidential spokesman said.

The two leaders agree to form a joint ministerial committee to tackle all bilateral issues and overcome all obstacles that may face them, he added.

They also stressed the importance of continuing intensive consultation in the coming period to achieve a qualitative leap in all fields to meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples, Rady concluded.
