CAIRO – 20 October 2017: French President Immanuel Macron will receive Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in Paris on 24 October, in the first official visit of Sisi to the Élysée Palace since Macron took office.

The meeting will address a number of issues of mutual concern including regional crises, counter terrorism, and human rights.

The president’s agenda will include discussing means of enhancing relations in the cultural, educational, military and economic fields, the Élysée statement noted.

Sisi will also meet with a number of French businessmen to boost economic cooperation with the French side, since France is the biggest investor in Egypt with €3.5 billion worth of investments, which makes it the 7th biggest importer to Egypt. Meanwhile, there are 160 French corporation operating on Egyptian soil, employing more than 30,000 Egyptians in all fields.

Sisi had received on June 5 former French Armed Services Minister Sylvie Goulard as they discussed military and security cooperation.

“Egypt and France have the political will to improve the bilateral relations, which fulfills the mutual interests of the two countries,” Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Friday. He added that Paris has a real interest in coordinating with Cairo to encounter regional issues.

It is worth mentioning that Sisi’s anticipated visit to France is the third since he took office in 2014.
