CAIRO – 23 July 2017: Egyptian politicians and experts provide their comments on the outcomes of the revolution of 1952 in conjunction with its 65th anniversary.

Egypt commemorates on Sunday the 65th anniversary of revolution that was a turning point in the country’s history, after reaching the independence of the Egyptian administration through the removal of King Farouk and the establishment of the Republic of Egypt.

The politicians' comments state that there are two main ideas that remain positioned on the political and social scene, which include people’s trust in Egyptian army and their engagement in political life.

Kamal Abu Eita, the former minister of manpower said that the revolution resulted in a rapprochement between the Egyptian people and the Army, after liberating the country and suggesting laws of reform and labor for citizens, as well as putting plans promoting the country from the political, social and economic corruption.

Authorities and high ranking officials have always referred in their statement to efforts of the army in supporting the Egyptian people especially in their fight against terrorism. Gamal Shakra, the director of the Middle East Research and Future Studies Center at Ain Shams University said that the revolution has constructed strong army that is currently doing great effort to protect Egypt from terrorist groups.

Abu Eita added that the revolution has made radical changes in the social structure of the Egyptian society; since then Egyptians became more active politically and more involved in their country's affairs, as the revolution gave them back their in participating in the management of factories and getting benefit of the agricultural associations and resources of their country, especially after the nationalization of the Suez Canal.
Similarly , Hussein Abdel Razek, member of the Political Bureau of the Tagamoa Party, said that popular classes have played a role in political life, which was only limited to feudalists and capitalists at that time, in addition to that, it promoted the establishment of political parties, some of which are still present till now.

Moreover, the revolution of 1952 has faced a huge wave of criticism by number of politicians and activist, on which Abdel Razek commented saying that the controversy over the July 23 revolution will continue as long as life continues in Egypt, for a very simple reason that the revolution was biased to the peasant class, workers, and the majority of the middle class, and was against feudalism, therefore there will always be a sector rejecting it.

Revolution of July 23 occurred through Free Officers Movement headed by former President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and a number of military officers. The revolution has recorded economic and social achievements that improved conditions of the working class who suffered from the lack of social justice in the decades prior the revolution; in addition to that, it revived women's rights as Rawia Attia the first female parliamentarian said.
