CAIRO - 11 May 2022: European Union (EU) Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger said the European bloc is poised to provide a new support package for the presidential "Decent Life" initiative in the next phase.

In statements to the MENA correspondent in Alexandria, Berger added the EU backs the "Decent Life" initiative as part of Egypt Vision 2030, noting that the European bloc participated in the implementation of a similar initiative in 2020 that focused on developing rural communities.

He explained that the EU would support a project aimed at upgrading Alexandria's tram network at the request of the Egyptian government.

Concerning the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, Berger asserted that the EU would continue offering the humanitarian and military support to Kyiv.

He pointed out that the EU prepares financial packages worth 225 million euros for bolstering the food-insecure countries affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war, saying that around 100 million euros would be channeled to Egypt.
