How Egypt’s ‘Haya Karima’ achieves unprecedented development in countryside

CAIRO - 16 April 2022: Regional Director for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti at the World Bank Marina Weiss asserted on Saturday the continued coordination and communication with the International Cooperation Ministry and the authorities concerned, to integrate with the development efforts of the government and to actively participate in the Decent Life Initiative, as well as the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) due to be held in Egypt in November, 2022.


This came during her meeting with International Cooperation Minister Rania al-Mashat in which they also discussed future projects related to development cooperation to support the government’s plan for transition to green economy, achieving financial inclusion, and enhancing the ability of the main economic sectors to deal with challenges and economic crises as well as furthering the participation of the private sector and modernizing the transport sector.

The minister stressed that she values the strategic relations between Egypt and the World Bank Group, reflected in the provision of development finance and technical support to many projects aiming to achieve the state’s international sustainable development vision in accordance with its national agenda and goals.

The past year saw a leap in new partnerships with the World Bank, she said, as a development financing agreement worth USD 200 million was concluded to combat air pollution in Greater Cairo.

She also referred to ongoing projects in housing, utilities and sanitation sector, noting that the talks tackled the importance of enhancing cooperation in technical support for projects being implemented. (MENA)
