CAIRO - 27 Septemebr 2021:  Egyptian students in the UK have launched an initiative to support the national "Decent Life" initiative to develop the Egyptian countryside.


The "Can You Skip Dinner Tonight" initiative was launched during a seminar organized by the Ministry of Emigration’s Dialogue Center for Egyptians Studying Abroad "MEDCE" via Zoom, in the presence of Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram.

The initiative includes promoting the "Decent Life" national project for developing the Egyptian countryside among foreign circles with the help of Egyptian students studying overseas, the minister said.

The total number of villages targeted by the ‘Decent Life’ initiative is 4,600 lying across 20 governorates. Half of those are located in Upper Egypt, including Fayoum, Beni Suef, Menya, Sohag, Asyut, Luxor and Aswan. The rest are located in Delta, having Qalyoubeya, Damietta, Beheira, Menoufeya, Gharbia, and Sharqia.

 

The goals of the initiatives are as follows:

  1. Rehabilitating houses, building ceilings for houses that lack them, and building residential communities in villages in need.
  2. Connecting the houses to water supply, wastewater, natural gas, and electricity networks.Introducing infrastructure necessary for micro-enterprises.
  3. Providing medical services, building hospitals and healthcare units, and equipping them with the necessary devices and medical staff.
  4. Operating medical caravans, and offering prosthetics.Improving the quality of schools, and nurseries, and establishing literacy classrooms.
  5. Expanding economic empowerment, vocational training, and employment through micro, small, and medium enterprises.
  6. Establishing industrial, and craft complexes.Bolstering food supply chains, and providing subsidized food.
