‘Haya Karima’ adopts digitizing Egypt’s villages at cost of LE 5.8 Bn

TCAIRO – 10 August 2021: As Haya Karima Initiative works to improve the standard of living of citizens in the villages most in need, not only by providing basic services such as paving roads, developing homes, connecting water and sanitation, but also by providing a better level of various services, like establishing the fiber-optic networks project.

The project was announced by the Ministry of Planning, and its budget is estimated at L.E. 6 billion, and its implementation will take up to 18 months.  

The initiative has announced more projects into the infrastructure development areas, including a project to connect terrestrial communications networks to the villages through 52 centers that feeds one million buildings in the targeted villages.

The initiative is implementing a comprehensive program to develop all Egyptian villages, bringing their number to 4,500 villages, and more than 28,000 followers, in which projects are implemented in 175 centers and 20 governorates.

It has about 58 percent of the population of the republic, and it is considered the first national project that does not consist of one component, but rather includes all aspects of economic, social and urban life.

Major General Khairat Barakat, head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, confirmed that the characteristics of the Egyptian countryside are surveyed every two years, and it includes all data that defines all aspects of work within rural villages.

He added that all needs were taken into account, as the plan of each center included covering all the main villages, hamlets and dependents with the sewage service by 100 percent. It also included raising the level of drinking water quality, increasing its efficiency by extending the service to disadvantaged communities, and replacing and renewing dilapidated lines, the expansion and increase of the capacity and productivity of stations, in addition to the delivery of natural gas services, raising the efficiency of communication networks, paving the main roads in villages and roads connecting between villages, paving and stabilizing small internal streets, as well as raising the efficiency of electricity and public lighting services.
