Cairo – 28 February 2017: Cairo International airport announced a state of emergency this morning to secure the unloading and transfer of 277 kilograms of raw gold coming from Marsa Alam on the western shore of the Red Sea to travel to Canada, Sada El Balad reported.

The gold arrived in a private jet from the Sukari Mine owned by the Australian company Centamin and was placed in armored cars under tight security, until it is shipped in the coming hours once it obtains the necessary approvals.

The gold will be purified and sold in international bourses according to the shared contract between Egypt and the Australian mining company.

The Sukari Gold Mine is one of the ten biggest gold mines worldwide.
