Who said hotdogs can’t be gourmet dining? With the newest addition to fast food joints in Cairo, Top Dawgs sets the bar high.

Cairo cannot get enough of food joints that seem to be popping up every week somewhere in the city. When we heard that a gourmet hot Dog spot had opened we couldn’t wait to go and try Top Dawgs, a small joint open in Zamalek, with a booth in City Stars and a new branch in Mohandessin. Although I am not a big fan of hotdogs, the delicious hotdogs from Top Dawgs completely changed my mind. The sausages, homemade at the restaurant, really do taste like meat and are nowhere close to the ones you can find in the market. Their bread, made from Il Moulino Bakery, is also one of the freshest breads used for hotdogs sandwiches. We tried our sandwiches in a soft, tasty bun but customers also have the option to of a baguette. Top Dawgs offers a variety of mouth-watering sandwiches, that includes a choice between veal or lamb sausages (Merguez) topped with Harrissa, Dijon mustard, and caramelized onions. We opted for the Original Top Dawg, LE 23 for the large, that comes with ketchup, chopped onions, mayonnaise, French mustard and relish. The simplicity of the sandwich only added to the freshness of the ingredients used, and overall the sandwich was great. We also had the BBQ Beef Bacon Dawg, LE 23 for the large, which was a bit heavier than the Original one but as delicious. The beef sausage is topped with crispy beef bacon, fried onions, barbeque sauce and shredded cheddar cheese. Last but not least on our hot dog craze was the NYC Dawg, LE 27 for the large, made of Sauerkraut, caramelized onions, French spicy brown mustard and sliced green olives, making the sandwich taste quite sweet and light compared to the BBQ Beef Bacon Dawg.
The sandwiches were neatly presented in a black basket.  If you order fries they will come along with a side tub of Ketchup and we definitely recommend their side of French Fries, LE 9, deliciously crispy from the outside and soft inside with a bit of skin left on. You can also make your own Dawg, adding a wide variety of toppings that include ketchup, various types of mustards, barbeque sauce, hot sauce, caramelized onions, a variety of cheeses, horseradish, crispy beef bacon and even sweet corn. With such affordable prices for gourmet dining and great quality, Top Dawgs is definitely a gourmet food joint.
