Five Egyptian artists and groups – including popular performance project The Percussion Show – have won production grants from the regional nonprofit Al Mawred Al Thaqafy (Culture Resource). A total of 15 artists out of 160 candidates in the fields of literature, video, theater, visual arts and music won up to $5,000 (LE 29,107) to pursue specific projects.
 Five Egyptian artists and groups – including popular performance project The Percussion Show – have won production grants from the regional nonprofit Al Mawred Al Thaqafy (Culture Resource).A total of 15 artists out of 160 candidates in the fields of literature, video, theater, visual arts and music won up to $5,000 (LE 29,107) to pursue specific projects. Two local authors won grants for literature, including Mohamed Aladawy and Donia Maher. Documentary maker Mohammad Shawky won a video grant for his project looking at insanity, while Shayma Kamel will use her visual arts grant for a video exploring the emotional struggles caused by societal criticism of women’s bodies.
