After state media employees staged numerous protests in front of the Maspero building, Samy El Sherif, the head of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU), announced a change in the leadership of the television sector. He wasn’t talking about former Masr El Naharda (Egypt Today) talk show host Mahmoud Saad quitting. El Sherif announced a total makeover for talk shows at channels one and two, replacing the old familiar faces of programs like Masr El Naharda and Men Qalb Misr (From the Heart of Egypt), with fresh new faces. He added that 50 percent of ERTU’s leadership would be changed as well. We’re yet to see if that move wins him popularity among a tough crowd.
