CAIRO – 18 March 2021: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi praised Egyptian doctors as “the angels of mercy and Allah’s hand to save humanity from the dangers and implications of diseases,” as he addressed the 43rd Egyptian Doctor’s Day on Thursday.

This came as Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, advisor to the president on health affairs, gave a speech at the celebration on behalf of Sisi.

It also comes while Egypt is suffering from a second coronavirus wave but managed to get past the peak and amid the country’s vaccination campaign that has started since January.

“I pay tribute to you, the doctors of Egypt everywhere on the land of our beloved Egypt … and all over the world, for the example you introduce of special performance, experience, giving, commitment and sincerity,” Tag El-Din said on behalf of Sisi.

Egypt celebrates the Doctors’ Day annually on March 18. This date marks the inauguration of the first school of medicine in Egypt and the Middle East in Qalyubia’s Abu Zabal.

The president has been keen to thank doctors and other medical workers since the pandemic has started in Egypt early last year.

In March 2020, Sisi ordered to boost the allowance of those working in the medical field by a 75 percent increase as a gesture of appreciation for their current efforts to contain the threat of coronavirus.
