CAIRO - 17 March 2021: Health Minister Hala Zayed said Egypt is expected to receive 5 million AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine doses by the end of this month and another 3 million doses by May.

In a Cabinet meeting, Zayed said Egypt has obtained 350,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

Egypt received its first batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine (50,000 doses) last month.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign in January, starting with the medical teams at quarantine hospitals, for being on top of priority groups in terms of vaccination.

The ministry then launched a website in order for citizens over 18 years old to register to receive the vaccine. The website is available in Arabic and English.

The campaign already started to vaccinate the elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases.

Zayed, during Wednesday’s meeting, said it is expected that 500,000 citizens in total register at the website by the end of this month.
