Egypt calls on all political parties in Somalia to exercise self-restraint after escalation of violence

CAIRO - 20 Feruary 2020: Egypt called on all parties in the Somali political arena to work jointly to address causes of the current crisis and reach a consensual solution, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Saturday.

 

The statement added that Egypt said it is following up closely and with great interest the recent political developments in Somalia and acts of violence that erupted in Mogadishu over the past two days.

 


Cairo also urged all parties to exercise self-restraint, abide by the peaceful means and dialogue, and work on holding free and fair elections as soon as possible.



Egypt asserted its support to all political efforts aiming to resolve the current political situation in a way that helps achieve the Somali people's aspirations to achieve security, stability, and development, as well as to eradicate terrorism.



It also called on all partners to offer support to brotherly Somalia to help it overcome the current conditions.
