PM invites Sudanese counterpart to visit Egypt

CAIRO – 19 February 2021: Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli has invited his Sudanese counterpart Abdalla Hamdok to visit Egypt, according to a statement from the Sudanese Cabinet on Thursday.
 
The invitation was delivered by Egyptian ambassador to Sudan Hossam Issa to Sudanese Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Khaled Omar Youssef, during a meeting in Khartoum, the statement added.
 
Both sides discussed the ways of enhancing the bilateral relations, especially after forming the new government of Sudan, in various fields like agriculture, electricity, and education
 
Khaled Omar Youssef said that coordination is required between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia to reach binding agreements that preserve the interests of all parties regarding the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam file.
 
On February 11, 2021, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry conducted a phone call with new Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, after she was sworn in, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.
 
Shoukry extended to her his sincere congratulations on taking office, expressing sincere wishes for success in her mandate.
  
Shoukry also wished Sudan continued welfare and progress, and the Sudanese people further prosperity and well-being, and inviting her to visit Cairo at the earliest opportunity, Hafez said.
 
The Sudanese Foreign Minister affirmed, on her part, her deep appreciation for Egypt and her aspiration to jointly work towards achieving further enhancement of bilateral relations in light of the historical fraternity binding the two peoples of the Nile Valley, while stressing that strengthening bilateral cooperation with Egypt during the coming period constitutes a high priority.
