CAIRO – 17 February 2021: The Cabinet articulated draft amendments to Law no. 277/1959 of Railways in order to regulate the presence of pedestrian vendors in the stations and on board of the trains.

The prospective amendments ban the presence of pedestrian vendors on trains regardless of class, and mandate acquiring a permit to sell products in stations.

Violators would be sentenced to 1-2 years in prison, and a fine worth LE2,000-10,000 or either of penalties.
