Egypt’s FM receives Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs

CAIRO – 7 February 2021: Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Charbel Wehbe headed to Egypt where he would meet with Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry on Sunday, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
 
Both ministers discussed the ways of enhancing the bilateral ties.
 
Shoukry expressed Egypt's full support for Lebanon to resolve the current stalemate that hinders the formation of a Lebanese government,  emphasizing Egypt's vision to form a government of national competencies that elevates Lebanon's supreme interest, and that enjoys the support of the international community, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid in a statement on Sunday.
 
The Lebanese Foreign Minister discussed the current situation in Lebanon, expressing his country's great appreciation for the Egyptian role in political and economic support for Lebanon.

Charbel Wehbe headed to Egypt to attend the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council that will be held at the level of foreign ministers on Monday to discuss the Palestine cause.
 
Last week, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness on protecting the Lebanese state and getting the country out of its current crisis through having all Lebanese leaders put forward the national interests. President Sisi’s comments came during a meeting with prime minister-designate Saad el Hariri.
 
President Sisi reiterated Egypt's steadfast stance regarding enhancing close cooperation ties with Lebanon, Presidency Spokesman Bassam Radi said.
 
Also, three Egyptian jets landed on January 28, 2021, in Beirut-Rafiq Hariri International Airport carrying aid embodied in medicines, medical equipment, and devices as well as baby formula.
