CAIRO – 27 January 2021: Minister of Health Hala Zayed stated that COVID-19 vaccines will be available for booking by the public through electronic registration systems to ensure good governance of the process.

This comes in line with the WHO’s recommendations, which require setting a priority to public categories who will receive the vaccination first given the limited initial quantities available.

The categories of the first recipients of the vaccine include: medical workers, elderly and critical cases.

She explained that the vaccination is expected to reduce the number of deaths caused by Coronavirus, as well as reduce the symptoms of the virus, prevent infection and limit the virus spread.

Regarding Egypt’s stance on receiving vaccines, Minister Zayed explained a contract was signed with AstraZeneca company for the Russian company’s factory and the Serum Institute of India, and it is expected to receive 50,000 doses from the company in February.
