CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Spokesperson for the General Union of Egyptian Communities Abroad Salah Youssef announced on Sunday that the organization will form a dedicated committee for combating terrorism and countries that support these activities.

The committee will seek to sue Qatar in international courts and demand the judiciary require Qatar to provide compensation for the countries that have suffered losses as a result of terrorism sponsored by the Gulf nation.

Youssef, who is also the General Coordinator for the Egyptian Communities Abroad leaders, continued that this compensation should include coverage for the damage caused to the Egyptian economy due to terrorism, as well as compensation for threatening social peace in Egypt. He stated that terror attacks supported by Qatar caused losses exceeding $10 billion.

A press conference for the union is scheduled to take place at the end of July to announce the committee formation, its working mechanisms and vision for implementation of its main goal.

The union selected prominent lawyer Samir Sabry along with other legal experts to pursue the lawsuits against Qatar. It is also currently working on gathering documents proving Qatar’s support for terrorism since the year 2011.
