CAIRO – 12 December 2020: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi assured a high-profile Iraqi ministerial delegation on Saturday that Egypt is ready to provide any raw materials and equipment or to establish any facilities.

The Egyptian president said supporting Iraq is a constant in the Egyptian policy, expressing Egypt’s keenness on collaborating with Iraq jointly or at a tripartite level with Jordan, according to a presidential statement.

Planning Minister of Iraq said Baghdad Khaled Najm appreciates the supportive Egyptian efforts, adding that his country wants to benefit from Egypt’s inspiring experience in development projects, especially in the fields of housing, infrastructure, electricity, health and agriculture.

After the meeting, the Iraqi delegation held talks with the Egyptian prime minister and other Egyptian ministers. They agreed to hold a tripartite meeting including Jordan during the first quarters of 2021 to announce a number of joint projects between the three countries.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly praised the Iraqi government’s “reconstruction for oil” initiative that will be applied once the relevant constitutional amendments pass in Baghdad, which would facilitate many of the joint agreements.

Najm said his country is eager to quickly arrive at a list of joint development projects and set deadlines for them.  With every ministry recommending a project or two under its jurisdiction.

The two ministries of planning signed a memorandum of understanding in setting economic and development policies, as well as statistical work and international cooperation, while the two agricultural ministries signed a protocol on agricultural research.
