CAIRO - 8 December 2020: Minister of Endowments of Egypt, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Jumaa, confirmed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's speech at the joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, held on Monday, revived the hearts of Muslims and lovers of human peace in various parts of the country.

He added that the president’s speech also won the respect of the whole world for its rigor, rationality, justice for the self and the other, and its reliance on reason and common sense.

In statements, Jumaa added that President Sisi's talk about respecting religious sanctities and symbols strongly contributes to supporting world peace and the dialogue of religions, civilizations, and cultures.

“What the president said about religious values being higher than human values is a belief that all believers in the whole world respect," he added.

Jumaa emphasized that the president's call to review the laws that allow demeaning religions in France is a courageous call that deserves to be an international charter.

Sisi commented on the recent controversy over cartoons depicting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, saying religious values should be considered. This came during a conference with the French President Emmanual Macron in Paris on Monday.

Sisi said freedom of expression should not lead to hurting the feelings of over 1 billion Muslims worldwide.

"In Egypt, our stance has always been clear, which is condemning with full decisiveness any terrorist act on any ground.. This is something we have condemned through the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and Al-Azhar, as a modern and moderate religious institution.

It is the right of any human to believe in what he believes in and to reject what he rejects … but it is very vital that when we express our viewpoint to not say that (it is fine) to transgress religious values for humanitarian values.

The rank of religious values is much higher than the humanitarian values. Humanitarian values are values that we have made and we are able to develop or manage. But religious values have been revealed by the great creator, Almighty God, are sacred and are above all values."

Meanwhile, Macron said the cartoons are not a message from France to Muslims but rather a form of expression from a reporter. He added that these acts comply with the law that has been chosen by France’s people, saying that many people opposing these cartoons respond to them peacefully.

Macron stressed that in France nothing can come before respect for human dignity, adding that it is the contribution of the philosophy of enlightenment. In France, a journalist, a cartoonist, writes and draws freely. Neither he President nor anybody else can tell them what to do.

Sisi had arrived in France on Sunday upon an official invitation in light of the two sides' keenness to enhance the strategic relations between Cairo and Paris. The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and joint political coordination concerning regional and international issues.
