Yemen’s Political Development Forum calls UN to designate Houthis terrorist organization

CAIRO – 26 November 2020: Yemen’s Political Development Forum (PDF-Yemen) has called upon the UN Security Council to designate the Houthis as a terrorist group.

 

The forum further demanded the imposition of penalties on terrorist individuals, groups, institutions and entities associated with the Houthis, like UN’s Resolution 2368 (2017).

 

Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the Council adopted resolution 2368 (2017), a sweeping 33-page text detailing the types of sanctions already imposed on Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS/Da’esh), Al-Qaida and associated individuals and groups.

 

PDF-Yemen is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental institution for intellectual and cultural activities, which was established for the principle Towards Safe and Sustainable Political Development.

 

The Foundation said in a statement today that the Houthi terrorist attacks against civilians in Yemen or against Saudi Arabia threaten the right to life and expect hundreds of victims.

 

It also committed numerous crimes against the Yemeni people equal in gravity with what ISIS committed in Iraq and Syria before its defeat, according to the statement.

 

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired a Quds-2 missile at Aramco’s North Jeddah plant, later confirmed by Saudi authorities.
