Egypt's Ambassador to China Mohamed el Badry reviewed the Egyptian strategy to fight terrorism, which is based on economic reform and development, the upright teaching of Islam, the security and military dimensions, and human rights.

The political stability, enjoyed by Egypt, encouraged the government to implement a bold economic reform program, which resulted in achieving economic growth with a percentage of 5.6% in 2018/19 FY, Badry noted.

Badry pointed out that the targeted economic growth was more than 6% in 2019/2020 FY, but the coronavirus crisis lowered the growth to be 3.6%, making Egypt one of the world's few countries which achieved economic growth.

The economic reform program contributed to declining the inflation rate to 4.2% in July 2020, compared to 32% in the past years, as well as luring direct foreign investments in Egypt, the ambassador underlined.

As most of the terrorist attacks in Egypt occurred in the Sinai Peninsula, the government spent about EGP 180 billion to set up development projects in Sinai over the past six years, he added.

He also reviewed efforts exerted by the Armed Forces, in cooperation with the State's institutions, to fight terrorism and support the development process in the country.
