Proud of women high turnout in House of Representatives’ election: NCW President

Cairo – 9 November 2020: The National Council for Women [NCW] President, Maya Morsy said, Monday that she is proud of the women’s high turnout in the parliament election.

She hailed the wide and strong participation of women to cast ballots in the second round of parliamentary election, stressing that women play an important role in the political life in Egypt.

"No genuine development and welfare can happen without women's participation in the different fields," the NCW President said.

Morsy thanked the National Election Authority for cooperating to remove any obstacles voters may face during the electoral process.

She also paid tribute to the Armed Forces and the Interior Ministry for efforts exerted to secure the voting.

The National Election Authority announced the end of the voting process on Sunday 9 pm, after the end of the second day of the House of Representatives elections’ 2nd stage.

The secondary polling stations started the sorting process, after voting took place inside the country on Saturday and Sunday.

For the second day in a row, Egyptian voters headed to polling stations in 13 governorates since 9:00 am to resume casting their ballots.

Long queues and high turnout were noticed outside dozens of polling stations since Sunday morning.

The two-day voting takes place in the governorates of Cairo, Qalioubiya, Daqahliya, Menoufiya, Gharbiya, Kafr Al-Sheikh, Sharqiya, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai and South Sinai from 9 am till 9 pm.

According to the NEA, the eligible voters in the second phase would cast their ballots in 9,468 polling stations distributed among 72 electoral constituencies and supervised by 12,000 judges.

The results for the second phase will be announced and published in the official gazette on the 15th of Nov.

Concerning the first phase, the National Elections Authority held a press conference last week to announce the results of the first round of the first phase of voting in 2020 House of Representatives Elections.

The NEA's Chairman Lashin Ibrahim stated that the turnout in the 14 governorates included in the first phase is 28.06 percent as almost nine million out of 31 million eligible citizens voted.

Regarding lists, the National List for Egypt won in the electoral districts of Upper Egypt (composed of 11 governorates) and Western Delta (composed of three governorates) securing 100 seats in the former and 42 in the latter. It was competing against the Egypt's Call List.
