It reinstated Mali as a member of the AU after the formation of a transitional civilian government that paved the way for political transition that will in turn restore the constitutional order in the country.

In a session chaired by Egypt, Egypt's Permanent Envoy to the AU Ambassador Osmaa Abdel Khalek congratulated the Mali people for returning back to the pan-African body.

The ambassador, in the name of the PSC, vowed to support Mali throughout its journey towards achieving peace and stability.

Egypt has assumed the periodical month-long presidency of the PSC since October 1st.

The AU suspended the membership of the landlocked West African country in August after president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita was ousted in a widely condemned military coup.
