CAIRO, Oct 3 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired Saturday a meeting in the presence of Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad to follow up measures taken by her ministry to combat pollution resulting from the "black cloud" phenomenon in Greater Cairo and Nile Delta.

The environment minister said that 500,000 tons of rice straw have been collected, up from 350,000 tons collected the year before, pointing out that 289 sites were opened for collecting the rice straw across the Nile Delta governorates.

The amount of rice straw collected represent 88 percent of the total amount of rice straw harvested, she affirmed.

Fouad said that 75 committees affiliated to her ministry have been activated in coordination with the bodies concerned to follow up the open burning of the agricultural and solid waste, highlighting that 1,481 industrial facilities have been inspected.
