Egypt’s president sends cable of congratulations to new Kuwait emir

CAIRO – 30 September 2020: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi sent a cable of congratulations to Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who has sworn in on Wednesday as the country's new emir.

 

Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has died Tuesday at 91 years old.

 

The president has expressed, on behalf of him, the government and people of Egypt, the best wishes of success for the new emir in completing construction efforts and development path, which have been carried out by the late emir.

 

In the cable, the president also affirmed strong and extending brotherly relations between Egypt and Kuwait and aspiration to boost fruitful cooperation to serve the interests of peoples of the two countries, as well as Arab and Islamic issues.

 

He wished Kuwait further progress, peace and prosperity.

 

Sisi announced public mourning in Egypt for three days after the death of the emir.

 

The mourning started Tuesday and will end on Thursday, according to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

 

"The Arab Republic of Egypt, in these painful circumstances, should remember with gratitude and appreciation the brotherly stances of Emir Sabah, and his outstanding fingerprints in the renaissance of Kuwait and the Arab and Islamic nations," said a presidency statement.

 

Sisi tweeted after the news "I mourn with great sadness and sorrow the death of the late Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, as the Arab and Islamic nation lost a precious leader, and I express sincere condolences to the sisterly State of Kuwait, government and people."
