CAIRO – 27 September 2020: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Sunday inaugurated the new headquarters of Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), which is set to help enhance the center's ability to perform its duties and implement its programs.

Shoukry also chaired the meeting of the Center's Board of Directors, which includes in its membership representatives of the Ministries of Defense, Interior, Higher Education and Scientific Research as well as international experts, said Ahmed Hafez, the Foreign Ministry spokesman.

The meeting dealt with the activities and projects of the Center during the last period and the financial and administrative developments, Hafez said, adding that it also discussed the proposed work strategy for the period 2020-2022, as part of the Egyptian state’s continuous efforts to activate all its tools in the field of peacekeeping to face the challenges posed by regional and international developments.

The Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs established the CCCPA in 1994 under the name of Cairo Regional Center for Dispute Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa to serve as an active tool through which Egypt strengthens its involvement in peace and security issues in the continent.

The prime minister issued a decision in 2017 to amending the functions of the center in line with the significant development witnessed by the issues of peacekeeping. The decision has enabled the Center to effectively expand its scope of work.

The spokesman said Shoukry also highlighted the position of the center regionally and internationally, as it was previously accredited as one of the African Union’s centers of excellence in the fields of training and capacity building. It also assumed the duties of the executive secretary for a group of international activities, including the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development held earlier under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
