CAIRO 27 September 2020: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call form from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday, discussing the latest developments in Libya and the situation of the Palestinian cause, besides the bilateral relations.
In a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, both officials affirmed the necessity of enhancing the bilateral relations on all levels, noting that they have a unified vision on the international efforts for keeping the cease-fire in Libya, and on the latest developments concerning the Palestinian-Israeli cause.
In June 2020, Shoukry talked with Pompeo on the recent developments in the region, especially in Libya, Palestine, Syria, and Yemen.
Shoukry and Pompeo also discussed updates of the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said, few days after Egypt had referred the issue to the United Nations Security Council, in a bid to prevent Ethiopia from taking unilateral measures on filling and operating the dam.
Shoukry reviewed with Pompeo the Egyptian efforts aiming at reaching a peaceful settlement, achieving stability in the region, and facing terrorism and foreign interference.
