In May 2016, the state built this full-service housing district to relocate slum dwellers.

In a statement released on Friday, the NCW said that an integrated work plan was drawn up to determine the needs of the district residents and offer a group of services in the different social, health, educational, sports, cultural and legal fields, to change negative behaviors into positive ones.

Concerning the health activity, the NCW adopted the "100 Million Healthy Lives" campaign for the treatment and early detection of people with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and non-communicable diseases, and dispatched several medical convoys, along with organizing medical awareness symposiums for the district residents.

Regarding the social activity, the NCW adopted a presidential campaign for supporting irregular workers and purchased 3,000 Aman certificates for women living in El Asmarat suburb.

As for the sports and cultural activities, the NCW organized a number of camps to strengthen family ties, in addition to setting up a sports camp for educating families about the rights and duties of girls and boys, renouncing violence and paying attention to hygiene.

The council organized a marathon to raise awareness about the role of women in the family and society, besides affirming the importance of gender equality, non-discrimination and respect for others.
