CAIRO – 13 September 2020: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has been updated on final preparations for the organization of the 27th Men’s Handball World Championship, which will be hosted by Egypt in January 2021, stated the Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement on Saturday.

In his meeting with Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy on Saturday, President Sisi directed the government to mobilize all capabilities to ensure the success of the championship and to be the world’s biggest sports event attended by audience since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, COVID-19, epidemic, Radi added.

The Minister of Youth and Sports gave a brief on the capacity of sports infrastructure included in the championship. “He [Sobhy] noted that for the first time in its history, 32 countries will participate in the championship, adding that 108 matches will be held in four various halls in three governorates, in addition to 10 other sports halls that will host the teams’ trainings. Dr. Sobhy confirmed that 1100 young volunteers were selected to participate in the organization of the championship,” Radi said.

The meeting also tackled the construction and fundings by the Egyptian Sports Fund, the first investment fund established to sponsor sports in Egypt.

“President El Sisi stressed the importance of sound management of the fund’s performance with the aim of sustaining the financial return to support Olympic champions, discover and sponsor talented athletes and establish national programs for physical fitness and general health,” Radi continued.
