CAIRO, Aug 31 (MENA) - The cabinet media center said the Egyptian universities will continue to gain prominent positions in international ratings after plans for their development and expansion.

In a statement released on Monday, the cabinet media center asserted that the Egyptian state is attaching great importance to the development of the Egyptian universities compared with their international peers.

The statement highlighted all efforts exerted by the state to upgrade the educational system in Egypt in all its stages especially the university one in order to bring out qualified human cadres that meet the needs of the state in achieving sustainable development and support the scientific research efforts.

The reports said that Egypt ranked 42 in the international Index of Education Quality (IEQ) in 2020 compared with the 51 rank in the Idex of 2019.

The report also shed light on the state's expansion of civil and technological universities noting that number of government universities increased by 17.4 percent to reach 27 ones during the academic year 2019/2020 compared with 23 universities in 2014/2015.

The report also noted an increase in the number of private and civil universities with 94.4 percent to reach 35 universities in 2019/2020 compared with 18 ones in 2014/2015.
