CAIRO - 22 August 2020: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has ordered treating a young obese patient at the state’s expense, Health Minister Hala Zayed said in a statement.

The 35-year-old patient had urged President Sisi to help save his life through getting urgent medical intervention as his weight passes 257 kg.

A renowned bariatric surgeon will carry out an urgent surgery for him at Dar Al-Shifa Hospital at the state's expense, the minister added.

The directives of President al-Sisi came in response to what was published in the Egyptian press on the case of Mahmoud Samir.

The patient quit his job after being abnormally overweight and unable to work or move.

Doctors confirmed that Samir could not perform surgery because of the presence of water on the lung and an ulcer on the stomach.
