CAIRO -27 July 2020: Many countries initially treated the coronavirus with a bit of underestimation because of the overconfidence in their strong health systems, particularly in USA and Europe. But the virus has spread frighteningly, turning into a global epidemic that everyone fears.

All countries of the world exertedgreat efforts to contain the coronavirus, but the results in some countries were disappointing despite the governments'repeated warnings tocitizens.

Corona's official appearance in Egypt:

The official appearance of the coronavirus began in Egypt on February 14, six months after the virus spread, indicating that more than one full cycle has passed.

Despite the increasing number of people infected with the virus in Egypt, which representedpressure on the health system and afflicted everyone with a kind of panic and anxiety, the sparkle of hope began to appear over time. After Eid al-Fitr, the numbers slightlyincreased; thenthe second stage followed with stability innumbers. And in the third stage, the numbers kept on decreasing.

Coronavirus is receding in the country:

Jihanal-Assal, vice-chairman of the Scientific Committee to Combatcoronavirus, said that the limited number of infections requires more time to verify the extent of the recurrence of thecoronavirus.

She pointed out that it is difficult to determine this time, especially since the SARS-COVID-2 virus passes through stages until its prevalence rate decreases, and this is deduced from the decrease in the number of infected people, the stability, and then the continual, gradual decrease.

Assaladded that the decrease in numbers indicatesthat the virus is gradually weakening, and this is the nature of any epidemic; the numbers will continue to decline gradually. She alsostressed that it is difficult to predictthe date of the decline of the virus.

She urged citizens to apply social distancingand make sure to wear a face mask to contribute to reducing the number of infections with the coronavirus.

Commitment is the best solution:

For his part, Mohamed Abdel-Fattah, head of the Central Department for Preventive Medicine Affairs at the Ministry of Health, asserted that the number of coronavirus infections have noticeably decreased in Egypt.

He highlighted the necessity of the continued commitment to the preventive measures to counter the coronavirus, pointing out that Egypt is in a phase of epidemic decline, but commitment is the best solution at this stage.

Abdel-Fattah pointed out that the vaccine is being produced, expecting that the vaccine will be available in October.

Abdel Fattah further explained that Egypthas recorded nearlyhalf the number of infections that were usually recorded."We estimate that we have passed the peak of the coronavirus spread. But if we loosen the precautionary measures, the number of cases may increase," he commented.

He noted that Egypt was one of the first countries to report the emergence of new cases of coronavirus.

The Egyptian health system:

Mohamed AwadTajel-Din, advisor to the president for health and prevention affairs, confirmed that the massive efforts that were made to confront the emerging coronavirus led to a decrease in the severity of the virus itself and a decrease in the number of cases;thereby reducing pressure on the health sector.

Tajel-Din added in his statements that the situation in Egypt regarding the coronavirus is better than the week that followed Eid Al-Fitr.He pointed out that if the number of cases of infection was fixed for a period of 5 days and then decreased, it can be said that there is a significant decline on the curve.

He explained that the situation had been brought under control, but the disease is still present, so citizens must continue to adhere to health procedures, social distance, and use disinfectants.

Tajel-Din pointed out that the ferocity of the coronavirus has decreased, whichin turn decreased the severity of the infected cases.

The government's ongoing preparations:

The Ministry of Health and Population continues to follow the situation first-hand regarding the emerging coronavirus, as well as to take all the necessary precautions against any viruses or infectious diseases.

The ministry has alsoset several means of communication to receive citizens ’inquiries regarding the emerging coronavirus and infectious diseases, including the hotlines 105 and 15335, and the WhatsApp number 01553105105, in addition to theEgypt's Health mobile application.

Egypt recorded Saturday 511 new coronavirus cases, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 91538.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry KhaledMegahed said 40 patients had died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 4558."As many as 933 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, handling the number of recovered cases to 32903 so far," the spokesman said.

Statistics for the Ministry of Health and Population revealed Wednesday that the recovery rates for people infected with coronavirus in quarantine hospitals have risen to 32.9 percent for the first time since the beginning of the crisis.

The statistics also explained that the spread of the novel virus increases in closed places at rates much higher than in open ones, by up to 75 percent in closed places compared to 12.5 percent in open places.

Health Minister HalaZayed announced Tuesday that All COVID-19 patients in Egypt’s Red Sea and South Sinai governorates were discharged from hospitals, as no new cases were recorded in the two governorates since then.
