Sisi condoles with Burundian president over death of former leader

BUJUMBURA, June 9 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi sent a cable of condolences on Wednesday to Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye over the death of former president Pierre Nkurunziza who passed away of cardiac arrest Tuesday.

"The Government of the Republic of Burundi announces with great sadness the unexpected death of His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, President of the Republic of Burundi... following heart failure on June 8, 2020," the government said on its official Twitter account.

A statement from Burundi's presidency on Tuesday said Nkurunziza was hospitalized over the weekend and that his health "abruptly changed" on Monday.
