Egyptian FM speaks to British FM

CAIRO _ 23 June 2017: Ahmed Abu Zeid spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt said that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a call from his British counterpart, Boris Johnson on Friday in which they discussed a number of significant files and issues regarding the Middle East.

Shoukry and Johnson have discussed current updates in Libya and Syria as well as the antiterrorism efforts exerted in this regard. They also discussed the updates of the Qatar crisis. The two ministers have agreed to maintain cooperation and collaboration in the upcoming period.

A number of files regarding bilateral cooperation wer on the table. Both parties emphasized the importance of bilateral ties promotion and intensive cooperation enhancement to achieve bilateral interests of the countries, the spokesman’s statement said.

Boris Johnson visited Egypt for the first time as a foreign secretary in February 2017. He held talks with the Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, and Shoukry. Johnson, the president and Shoukry discussed a range of issues aimed at deepening bilateral relationship.

"We are Egypt's top economic partner and strong allies against terrorism and extremist ideas," Johnson added.
