CAIRO - 4 May 2020: Cairo International Airport is set to receive on Tuesday the second planeload of medical supplies offered by the Egyptian Authority for Unified Drug Procurement, Medical Supply, and Medical Technology Management.

In a statement released by the authority on Monday, the 24.5-ton shipment comes as part of the State's plan to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

An EgyptAir flight will bring the supplies, which are being funded by Hassan Allam Holding and El Sewedy Electric companies.

In April, the authority offered 40 tonnes of supplies after adding the first shipment, which had been funded by El Sewedy Electric.

Head of the authority Bahaa El-Din Zaidan said the authority was keen on offering medical supplies that face a shortage in the local market, therefore it coordinated efforts of large national companies who seek to support the state amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The authority succeeded in importing the supplies despite restrictions on importing them globally, he stated, adding all the supplies had been provided without burdening the state treasury.

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Supply and Medical Supply and the Department of Medical Technology is working on developing the health system, as it specializes in making purchases of human medical preparations and supplies for all government agencies and bodies.

It should be noted that Egypt recorded on May 3, 272 new coronavirus cases and 14 deaths, which raises the total infected patients of COVID-19 to 6465 and the total deaths to 429 according to Health Minister’s daily briefing.
