CAIRO - 25 April 2020: On the occasion of the 38th anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi extended his greetings to those who participated in the liberation of the Sinai peninsula from Israeli occupation.

“This would not have happened without a long struggle that Egypt waged on all fronts for the liberation of Sinai,” said President Sisi on his official pages on Facebook and Twitter on Saturday.

“We extend our greetings to the men of the Armed Forces who fought the most honorable battles, to Egyptian negotiators, and to everyone who participated in making this historic epic,” the President said.

Meanwhile, Friday Lady Entisar El Sisi said that the Liberation of Sinai is a great landmark in the modern history of Egypt thanks to the Egyptians who reclaimed Sinai.

The Sinai Peninsula was liberated from Israeli occupation following the Egypt-Israel peace treaty signed in Washington in 1979. The treaty was signed by former President Anwar Al-Sadat and then-Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. Israel had occupied Sinai during the Six-Day War in 1967.

Sadat went to war with Israel in October 1973. The October War was fought by a coalition of Arab states, led by Egypt and Syria, against Israel in Sinai and the Golan Heights.
