CAIRO – 18 March 2020: Special Envoy of WHO director Maha el-Rabat stated that lab experiments are underway in many countries to find a treatment for the infectious Coronavirus that has killed thousands globally.

She noted that finding a cure will take at least one year, as the process of producing a vaccine for Coronavirus should pass through a number of phases, which might take longer than two months.

“Societies need to abide by precautionary measures to contain the virus. Each individual bears the full responsibility of implementing these measures, and positively participate in combating the disease,” she added.

Regional Director of WHO Ahmed el-Monzery said that the countries in the region are suffering from health crises that affected their health systems in terms of staff, and financial capabilities. He added that WHO is coordinating with these countries to strengthen their health systems, and eradicate epidemics.

John Jabbour, WHO representative in Egypt, said that Egypt had taken all precautionary measures to reduce the spread of Coronavirus, stressing that the country has provided a list of hospitals applying the approved treatment protocol, to which the infected cases were referred.

WHO has announced that the total number of confirmed infected cases with Coronavirus reached 167,515 from 150 countries, including 6,606 deaths.
