BEIJING, March 2 (MENA) - A total of 202 new cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed on the Chinese mainland and 42 new deaths were reported Sunday night, according to China's National Health Commission.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now stands at 80,174 and the cumulative death toll is 2,915.

The Chinese National Health Commission said 2,837 patients were released from hospitals after being cured, upping the total number of patients discharged from hospital to 44,518 until Sunday evening.

The number of severe cases decreased by 255 to 7,110.

The commission added that 141 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus.

The commission said 46,219 close contacts were still under medical observation.

By the end of Sunday, 98 confirmed cases including two deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 10 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 40 in Taiwan, including one death.

Thirty-six patients in Hong Kong, eight in Macao and 12 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospital after recovery.
