KUWAIT CITY, Feb 24 (MENA) - Kuwait was on alert after three passengers coming from Iran tested positive for coronavirus.

The Kuwait Ports Authority and Kuwait Airways suspended passenger movement to and from Iran and banned access of all ships coming from Iran, well-placed sources told MENA on Monday.

All 800 passengers who arrived on Sunday from the Iranian cities of Qom and Mashhad will be undergo meticulous medical tests.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced earlier Monday that preliminary tests conducted for passengers coming from the Iranian city of Mashhad resulted in three confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kuwait.

The Health Ministry's statement said although the three cases were confirmed, two of them did not show any symptoms. It said the first case was a 53-year-old Kuwaiti citizen, and the second a 61-year-old Saudi citizen, with both in "normal" condition, showing no symptoms of the virus, it said.

The third case, according to the statement, is a 21-year-old man with initial symptoms, as all three cases are under constant observation by the medical staff.

Authorities concerned in the country and the Ministry of Health took the necessary precautionary measures in accordance with scientific and standard recommendations and guidelines accepted by the World Health Organization, carrying out surveys to detect COVID-19 using itemized reagents, the ministry added.
