CAIRO – 19 June 2017: A roadside bomb went off Sunday in the southern outskirts of Cairo, leaving one police officer dead and another four wounded, an Interior Ministry press statement announced.

The bomb, which was buried by the side of the highway of the Maadi Autostrad Rd., went off as the vehicle carrying the police personnel passed by.

A militant group operating in Egypt called Hasm Movement claimed responsibility for the explosion.

“We struck once again deep into Cairo, after having warned earlier,” The terrorist group announced on its official Facebook page.

Jihadists and terrorist organizations have been carrying out attacks on police and army forces since the ousting of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

Preliminary investigations said the bomb was apparently triggered remotely, a security source told MENA.
